This book reads like a college textbook. It is filled with so much information about the brain, neurons, food, and excitotoxins. It's an excellent book, if this subject is of interest to you/5.

    The last few chapters of this book expands on the role of several neurochemical interactions in the context of diseases like Alzheimer's and Creutzfeld-Jakob (Mad cow-like disorder), Huntington's (and other related basal ganglia disorders), and several Psychiatric disorders (anxiety, mood disorders, addiction, etc). Of the 3 different ionotropics, in terms of excitotoxicity, the NMDA (n-methyl d-aspartic acid) receptor has received the most attention. When the free pool of glutamate increases (and potentially other types of excitotoxins as well), the NMDA receptor gets over-loaded, resulting in a massive influx of calcium ions.
